Got a MKV file(captured 720p tv) over the internet and it's not playing nice with VLC player. The video skips and studders but the audio is just fine. I have played mpeg and avi and they do just fine. Is this a codec issue? I am using an older P3 laptop. Thanks for any help!

An older p3 is too slow for HD h264 video.

You could try play with media player classic together with coreavc(demo available) but I guess a p3 is still too slow.

No, it's an HD issue, most likely. Your laptop might not be powerful enough to play HD video streams.

There is nothing you can do that will enable a P3 to correctly play 720p and above H.264 video. To put it in perspective, my almost 4 year old single core AMD 3200+ PC can BARELY play 720p H.264 video correctly, but it cannot play anything above that. My PC is significantly more powerful than your old laptop.
It's time for a new computer.
