I currently have a dead Sony DCR-DVD-308. I need one that is better. I like the view finder. I need something that will be better at low light sports like hockey, basketball. I get more confused the more I try to figure it out. Any suggestions? Under 1200 ish.. need more thant 15x zoom. I don't care about HD of DVD.

The HV40 only has advantage for 24p. Since OP is shooting sports, he should stay with interlace 29.97 fps (1080i HDV or 480i DV). Next best cam would be ~3500 XH-A1. Best would be the $5000 JVC GY-HD200U (720p @59.94 fps) or higher.
