avidemux subtitles, fatal errors

Can someone please help me. i am using AVIDEMUX to convert a mkv to divx and to also burn in the subs. I use MKVextractGUI to extract the subs, then i follow this forum https://forum.videohelp.com/topic360276.html. However i am constantly getting fatal error crashes. I read that i do not need avisynth and ffdshow if i am using avidemux, is that true? If i don't need these 2 programs i wont install them. Infact last time i did they affected dvdshrink. I also tried to use SUPER with the same file and super only seems to convert a portion of the MKV. i do know that the entire 24 minute file will play on my PC with VLC media player with no issues. If anyone has a suggestion or answers i would greatly appreciate it.

Nope, you don't need avisynth and ffdshow. What version did you try? latest 2.4.4? You could try an older version and see it make difference, https://www.videohelp.com/tools/AviDemux/old-versions#download
