  1. Hello.

I'm trying to save a few movies off my Dishnet satellite.

I'm using ATI's multimedia center to capture 320x240 uncompressed AVI's. I've wiped a 46 Gig ATA100 drive, installed W2K on it and installed the VirtualDub, the Divx codec plus ATI's MMC. That's it. It's in a removable drive and I'm only going to capture video with this disk. I have 43 Gigs free which is enough room for 2-1/2 hours of uncompress AVI.

I get a great capture with this setup. When I try to convert to Divx, it looks like crap. I'm using the howto here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm.

Is this what I'm suppose to be using? Am I wasting my time capturing satellite? What am I doing wrong? I've been fighting with this for 4 days, reading all the post and info on the net I can.

    HELP!!!

  2. The default setting in some versions of the codec have low bitrates - try upping the bitare.

The default setting isn't always the best

  3. yeah, you should up the bit rate slider. I use low motion divx with the slider up to 6000 to convert my avi's to divx, and it looks great, and the file isn't that big.

  4. You mean bump the 910 up to 6000?
Isn't that a little steep? What size files are you getting with a setting this high.... let's say an average 1 hr 30 min flick.

  5. Yep, the 910 up to 6000, and on audio, mpeg layer-3 44,100Hz stereo 224kBit/s... says 28Kb/s. I get about a 209 MB file of DBZ capture without commercials, 22 minutes long, dunno about longer caps tho. math wise, it looks to maybe fit on one cd : D
