I keep getting a fuzziness when convertin HD WMV to AVI using FFmpegX, the fuzziness is usually around the arms and legs and really annoying. I've tried the de-interlace function but that had no effect.

"AVI" is not a codec -- it is a container. You left out an awful lot of information that is critical: What are the source and target resolutions? Codec? Bitrate? Why did you choose "deinterlace?"

In the absence of any of that, here are some guidelines:

    1) Codec choice matters. The more advanced the codec, the higher the quality for a given bitrate.
    2) Target resolution: If you choose a value that is significantly smaller than your source resolution, then of course detail will suffer.
    3) Bitrate: If bitrate is too low, then regions of high detail and/or fast motion will not be represented well.
