    I've been trying to figure this one out for a while. The sound happens just as the desktop is displayed on the screen. I can't find the WAV which gets played, otherwise I'd post the sound. It sounds like a drop of water dripping into a puddle (if that makes any sense).

  2. do you have a read shield with an "x" on it by the clock, if so you have something disabled that windows finds wrong, such as auto updates, firewall, etc. if you have the balloon tips disabled, you can't see what it is complaining about.
