I'd like to convert an OGM for iPod usage but the main track isn't in English. I'd like to convert to AVI, MPG, or even directly to MP4 if possible. None of my converters appear to be able to do the trick, between TVC, Xilisoft, and Videora.

One easy way to do it would be to open it in VirtualDubMod, then use Streams > Stream list. Delete the audio tracks you don't want in the video.

Then, you can have VDubMod save it to an AVI. (Note that most OGMs I've seen are usually Xvid video streams with Vorbis-format (Ogg) audio tracks... so you might be able to direct stream copy the video and have VDM re-encode the audio to MP3.)

Try using XVID4PSP which has an XviD MPEG-4 profile for iPods as well as a MP4 profile for iPods.

I can open them and save with DSC, but I'm not getting audio. I assume it's just tossing away the OGG audio. What do I do? Where do I select "convert to mp3"?

Alright, that's pretty solid, but is there any way to encode videos en masse, or is it just one at a time forever?

Just to be safe, open your OGM in MediaInfo and post the information on the video and audio codecs used, here.

(Edit: When you open Streams > Streams list, does your OGM have more than one stream? Naturally, if it only has one (audio) stream, and you disable it, you're not going to have audio in the resulting AVI. Stupid question, but I just thought I'd make sure. )

VirtualDubMod shouldn't be throwing away the audio - it should be set to Direct Stream Copy the audio as well, by default. Odd that the end result wouldn't have any audio, which is why I asked for the MediaInfo information above.

But, to answer your question: while you have the (original OGM) video loaded, and have 'removed' the audio stream(s) you don't want, right-click on the audio stream you do want, and click on 'Full processing mode.' Then, in that same menu, pick Compression. You can then choose MP3 (do you have the Lame ACM codec from the Lame package installed?).
When you save the video, the audio track is then (hopefully ) recompressed into MP3 format.

(Of course, I usually converted OGMs the hard way, rather than use VDM... )

Still no audio. Not on DSC or on any other processing mode, not on Lame or any audio format, and with the stream list in order.

Well, that's odd. Does the audio play if you only load the OGM into VirtualDubMod (without doing anything else to it) and press Play?

I'd wonder if you're missing a VfW/ACM codec for Ogg/Vorbis audio, but VirtualDub/Mod should complain in that case, as far as I know.

    Weird.

I noticed I happened to have a dual-audio OGM handy, so I tried running it through VDM myself - and ended up with an AVI with no audio. That shouldn't happen.

Next, I tried running it through AVIdemux. It gave me the option to pick which audio track I wanted as the main, so I picked the English track. Set the Video to Copy, the Audio to MP3, and the file-save format as AVI... and ended up with an AVI with only the English audio track (I was expecting both tracks to still be there, of course.)
So, unless someone can shed some light on why the VDM process didn't exactly work, AVIdemux is probably a better choice (than VDM).
(I believe AVIdemux also does batch processes through the Job List, IIRC.)

Alright, AVIdemux is working fine, though when I run batch processes it prompts me about the audio for every file. Thanks!

Glad to hear it's working for you.

I probably should note that AVIdemux does seem to default to saving files without an extension, though, so make sure you either specify .avi on the filenames, or batch rename-add it afterward, if necessary.
