I have no clue on how to burn this WMV HD file I have on to a disc. The file is 11.5 gigs. Can someone show me how I can go about doing this? I just want to back this up on to a DvD so I can watch it on a later time.

    Thank-you

You could split the file with something like this: http://www.solveigmm.com/?Products&id=VideoSplitter#Buy_now_SolveigMM_Video_Splitter Probably other WMV splitters out there that other members know about.

You could split it to burn as a data file on two dual layer DVD discs, Verbatim DL + recommended.

Any splitters that are easy to use and cost effective namely $0.00 lol . Also, what do you use to burn dual layer discs? I'm very new at this sort of thing.

Imgburn, with UDF set to 2.5 to allow for larger file sizes

Imgburn can just burn the whole thing without having to split the file?

Alternatives are to burn to Blu-ray $$ Or re-encode to a lower quality/more compressed format. A DVD-9 DL disc holds about 7.95GB, a single layer DVD-5 disc holds about 4.37GBs. Re-encoding can take quite a bit of time. It takes about six hours for me to re-encode a Blu-ray 25GB file to a 7.95GB MKV file. That's with a quad core running at 3.3GHz and and a two pass encode.

  8. Just use HJSplit or any file splitter to break it into ~4 GB pieces. Burn onto DVDs. Restore the pieces later with the same software (the individual pieces won't be playable, you have to join them back together).

Hmm, so basically I have to re-encode them to a lower quality and more compressed version ( under 8 gigs). Or split them up (kinda pointless, seeing as it cant be played from disc because you have to rejoin them again just to watch). This is annoying, never thought this would be so much work. Better off just getting original retail blue ray.

Why did no one mention using asfbin, which is free, to split this file? I've used it to split WMV HD files before. It works. The individual pieces ARE playable with this method.

    Cause you mentioned it

Encoding and burning and capturing plus splitting is all done by trial and error at first and reading lots of info from sources such as google and videohelp,Learning all this stuff can be trying, you just gotta be patient and try what is suggested. After you get the hang of it then you can try different methods.

I had to learn all about blu-ray and avchd and how to encode and author and burn it and what tools to use and hardware to buy but once i got it sorted out i wont go back to dvd. Also its fun doing this type of stuff if its your type of hobby/work.

Why don't you have it already? If you don't own the disc of the film, you probably shouldn't have this file.

So, There is a way then? So using Asfbin I can split the file into 3 dvds and play each disc separately. Anything in that program I need to know before I begin doing a trial and error on it?

ok, I just tried several times and have no clue how to us this program asfbin. Keeps giving me an out file that is 2kb size? what am i supposed to do with that?
