I just bought a new gateway pc and was installing programs in it. I new to vista and dont know what happened. I installed dvdfab 5.3 and now my dvd drive won't work. I checkede device mamnager and there is an exclamation point under the drive. I tried to do a restore and that didnt fix it. I tried to update the drive and that didnt work. anyone what happened or how to fix this? Does dvdfab work with vista? I should have done some research before i installed i guess but it's too late now. Can someone please help me?

  2. In device manager right click and uninstall the drive and re-boot.

I think Vista will stop you installing something that does not work with it, oh ye of a lot of faith ! (me)

Also try downloading dvd fab again and reinstall, or uninstall it and see what happens after a reboot.

Pcouffin is installed with DVD Burning software, and is definitely installed with DVDFab. Reinstalling DVDFab should have put pcouffin back in, but if the hardware does not like it for some reason, then you will have the same problem. When you did the System Restore, how far back did you go? I usually go back a few days before the problem started - not just to the last restore point.

What kind of computer is it - Desktop or Laptop? What model number is the DVD Burner? Does the drive work at all - ie: Read Discs?

  5. When you install DVDFab it asks you if you want the VSO burn engine, untick the box.If that doesn't help then go to Settings>DVD and make sure I/O is set to Auto.

The cable connecting the drive to the motherboard might be loose - this can happen when the computer is moved around in transit, since this is a new computer. You may want to open the case and check all the internal connectors, making sure that they are securely fastened.

does the drive function at all, like during startup when the bios scans for it? iow, can you put in a bootable system cd and boot from the cd instead of via the hard drive? if so, the problem is likely with in vista (prob a missing or misconfigured driver). if you can't boot from the dvd drive at all however, or the bios fails to recognize it, then the problem is likely in either the hardware and/or bios settings. check the power and data connection cables from the drive to the motherboard as well as the master/slave jumpers if applicable.

How did you get the drive recognized? - Just curious what the problem was.

i un-installed everything and after several re-boots i think it fixed itself. I re-installed eveything except vso engine and just burned my first movie. This thing is fast, ripped and burned in 11 minutes.
