  1. In new TMPGenc it shows that I can store more video to one DVD-R if audio is in MP2 format. Can I choose in TMPGenc which format to encode to, or should the audio be in right format when I start encoding?

Is there any big difference between the two formats?
How can I calculate that the files will fir onto one DVD-R?

    Thank you!!

  2. Audio PCM: 48000*2*16 = 1.5Mbps
    MP2 Audio: 224Kbps (typical)

You'll save about 1.2Mbps per second using MP2 vs LPCM, which is about 150KB/s, or 9MB/minute, or 540MB/hour.

    Hope this answers your question.

  3. Just to let you know, I have had many problems with MP2 audio for DVDs. They usually skip containtly. I have never had a problem with PCM audio ever.

I couldn't find any switch in TMPGenc to choose which format to use. Should I encode the audio somewehere else first?

Is there any big quality difference between the two formats?

  5. PCM is always better quality than MPEG Audio since it is uncompressed.
In practice, you will not hear a difference with bitrates higher than 200kbps

  6. OK. Where can I choose which format to use?
I'm mainly moving my VHS collection to DVDs and would like to save some space. So the quality is already lower --> VHS.
