    I have this ex HDD here.. it's a 5.5" i think and it uses power supply. Basically it's about 3 years old now. It has no OS installed on it and is just a backup hdd for stuff.
    Now prob is, one of the folders cannot be accessed. It says I/O error...what'as causing this? If it's hardware it should affect the other folders right? How is it only one particular folder is affected?

    In case something has gone terribly wrong, any way to retrieve the data in that folder? Any prog or solution?

    Thanks in advance all!

    PS: I just tried defragment and it is sorta jammed...perhaps the hdd is dying? Or could it be the USB cable?

    I suspect the drive is failing and the clusters which hold the folder in question are damaged. Use the disc tools supplied by the drive manufacturer to test the drive. They should be on the CD which came with the drive, or you can download them from the manufacturer's website.
