I have a 1.75gb MKV Video file that I want to burn to dvd and play on my dvd player to watch on my tv. When I try to use convertxtodvd to convert the file, it is unable to. Is there a better software available that will allow me to convert this MKV file to a watchable dvd on any dvd player?

You could also try AVStoDVD, FAVC or DVD Flick. They can all handle MKV files. Some people also recommend SUPER, but I would only go down that path if a) all else fails, and b) quality is not a priority.

I have also found that problem mkv files often convert on a second try if you first demux just the audio and video stream that you want, then create a new mkv file using just these streams. MKVExtractGUI and MKVToolNix are required to do this (MKVExtractGUI to demux, MKVMergeGUI to remux)

I just used FAVC and IMGburn and everything worked EXCEPT THE AUDIO. I HAVE NO AUDIO. WHY NOT???
    What did I do wrong??
Gunslinger, you said, "you first demux just the audio and video stream that you want, then create a new mkv file using just these streams. MKVExtractGUI and MKVToolNix are required to do this (MKVExtractGUI to demux, MKVMergeGUI to remux). What does DEMUX mean?? How do I do what you just described?

Open the mkv file in mkvExtractGUI, select the audio and video streams and demux them to separate files on your HDD. Close mkvExtractGUI and open mkvMergeGUI. Select the vido and audio stream you have just created, and save them as a new mkv file.

However before you do this, how did you determine that you have no audio ? Did you check the streams with mediainfo or g-spot ? Did you test in a reliable player like Media Player Classic ? (Note : Windows Media Player and Nero Showtime and Real Player are not reliable players)

How did I determine that I had no audio. Simple, I burned it to a dvd then placed that dvd in my dvd player and I saw a Great picture but no sound. Also, it did not have sound using media player classic or ANY player.

By the way, what do you mean by "checking the streams" like with gspot or mediainfo??

The question is how did the original MKV sound when played? Not your conversion.

The original MKV sounded great. It is currently on my computer HDD. What I want to do is burn it into a playable dvd on ANY dvd player (most importantly the one connected to my TV.

Open the file in mediainfo and it will tell you what is inside it.

I downloaded both MKVExtractGUI and MKVtoonix like you said. I have NO idea how to use the MKVExtractGUI tool. It is very confusing.
    Isn't there some easier software??

DVD flick has been encoding it for 9 hrs. now. It seems stuck on the audio encoding. Although at the bottom it says 100% for title 1 of1, track 1 of 1 and source 1 of 1 Encoding. Up at the top it is on the Encode Audio part. Is it stuck? I mean I know the file is big (1.75GB). But it has been at this same 100% for 6 hrs now.

Your PC is a pretty poor one for encoding, if your specs are right. 1.4 Ghz celeron - slow, poor at maths - pretty much worst case scenario for video work.

As far as mediainfo goes, OK so I downloaded it and placed my MKV file in it. I mean so what, it shows that I have 1 video stream AVC, and 1 audio stream AAC. OK, big deal, what does this mean to me?? Now what do I do??

You can also use it to check the VOBs that FAVC produced to see if they have audio streams. Generally, if you run into conversion issues, you will be asked to find out exactly what is in your files. Media info is a good place to start.

Finally it worked. I used convertxtodvd (the newest version 3.4.7) and it worked like a charm. I think the problem was before that I was using an old version 2.1 of convertxtodvd. I upgraded and it worked like a charm. Thanks for everyones help.
