    Hi!

I have a problem. I can't find a good video converter that can do one simple task:

I want to convert my DV camera movies to a decent size AVI file. My camera records MPG movies (PAL DV Widescreen 9100 bps) with 6 channel surround, and I want to make them to Stereo AVI xvid or divx movies much smaller in size. I also want the videos to work in my video editing program called Sony Vegas 8.0, which accepts most format as long as they're somewhat standard.

I tried Any Video Converter, but it doesn't work with surround sound.
I tried Magic Video Converter, but there's no such thing as a pixel aspect ratio in there, so I had to convert it to a weird video size to make the aspect look natural, but then it won't work with Sony Vegas.
I tried AVS Video Converter, and that worked out very well! Until I got to the point where I needed to add all my 300 videos. It seems the time for adding of files somehow increasing for each file. So doing one big batch job doesn't work.
I tried a bunch of freeware products too. They're all crap.

Does anyone know about a program that can handle this? I don't care if it costs shitloads, as long as it works.

    Thanks for the help!

What camcorder is it? DV isn't MPG. How are you getting the video from the camcorder to the PC?

via USB... It's a 40 GB hard drive in there, and it makes MPG movies.

I can predict you WILL have a problem. Vegas does not work well with divx / xvid avi files. It works best with DV-AVI (not an option on WinFF), or better still -- the native mpg files from the camcorder itself. Shrink down to divx or xvid AFTER editing -- not before.

finey, your method is terrible. You are ruining the quality of your video by doing what you've done. It's not the correct way to do things.
