When trying to open in Media Player Classic a divx container created with AVIAddXSubs I get the following message from Avi Chunk Viewer: "This AVI file was not prepared for sequential reading, the alternative 'Avi Splitter' will now let the default one handle it. The complete reinterleaving of this file is strongly recommended before burning onto a slow media like cd-rom." Can this problem be corrected without reinterleaving?

  2. No. But reinterleaving will only take a minute. Open with VirtualDub, select Video -> Direct Stream Copy. Save. It may not retain subtitles though. Or in AviDemux open the file then save it.

Neither VirtualDub nor AviDemux retains subtitles.

  4. Mpeg4Modifier appears to retain the subtitle track (you can still see it in a chunk viewer) but Divx Player won't display them. And MPCHC still gives the Avi chunk viewer error so it doesn't solve the problem. I think MPC just gets confused by the subtitle stream.

  5. My understanding is that subs in .divx container only work with divx ultra certified products (i.e. no software)

If you want subs inside a container, use .mp4 or .mkv; otherwise keep them outside with .avi container

They work with Divx Player. But, yes, they don't play in MPC, VLC, etc.
