cutting the end of xvid file

hello,

What i wanted to do is cut the end few minutes on my xvid. I found this guide https://www.videohelp.com/oldguides/virtualdubedit but before I can even load the file I get a msg saying virtualdub couldnt locate decompressor for format xvid

* i forgot to add im using 64bit xp

please let me know, if Im using wrong guide or tool or whatever I might be doing wrong. Im a total newb in this field.
