Hours to covert to mp4

I just wonder if anybody can help with the following issue:

I tried to convert 2 movies (Wall_E and Just Friends) to mp4. Both took about 14 hours each using xvid4psp. I followed Baldrick's guide and settings. So I just wonder did I miss some settings somewhere. Would appreciate any afvice.

My process: Ripped DVD to drive and shrink. Then start Xvid4psp with settings from guide.
Equipment: Compaq P4 at 2.4 Gig speed, 1 gig of ram, plenty of drive space, no other programs running.

2 drives would help, a separate source and destination, but the main problem is the age of your cpu. it is a bit slow by current standards and mp4 take a lot of processing power to encode.

Give Handbrake a try. I've done Wall-E in about 4 hours with it (xbox) on a machine with nearly your specs.
