Hello. After probably hundreds of hours of learning how to create DVDs out of my family's home movies I am to the point of actually making them. Well, as my main computer is busy transcoding (aka encoding) a project, I thought that I would mess with the DVD cases. Primarily, putting labels in the inserts (on the outside). I have tried several methods and I like the Nero Cover Designer the best. But, no matter which application I use, they print to small. In other words, I get white borders where there should be print. I am using our HP 2210xi (all-in-one) printer. I have tried changing every single option available. They will print correctly with respect to height. But, the width is several centimeters to small. I am at a dead end and I do not know what to do. I do not want to half-ass the cases after spending so much time perfecting the DVDs.

I have tried different paper size settings. I am using landscape. HP offers "borderless" printing but only for certain sizes of media (4x6, etc). Printing with and without bleeding and adjusting those values. I have tried changing the type of paper. Basically, I have adjusted any and all settings on the printer and in Cover Designer.

    I need help. Please!!!!!

I have only 2 programs that are capable of printing DVD box inserts and they both do exactly what you describe - the width edges are slightly too small. I never found a solution for that, so I just lived with it. I have the feeling that such is normal behavior for this type of program.

I've been using Photoimpact (my choice) to print DVD cover art. I use HP brochure paper, and set the printable area to 7.25 in W X 10.75 in. H in potrait - or 10.75W X 7.25H in landscape modes (inches). I did have to drop back to regular paper after purchasing an Epson R280 as it was over saturating the paper. I haven't found any software solutions as of yet.

I made a perfectly round image for a cover then put it online. I went to 2 pro printers and they were not able to print the image round. They had no clue either why they couldn't. Just goes to show this area needs serious developing.

PS - I think the problem comes from dots per inch vs pixels per inch but what do I know?

Letter size paper is too small to completely print a DVD insert, use legal size and UndercoverXP to print. I've been using Irfanview to print inserts for HD-DVD and Blueray, there slight less wide than normal DVD. Set to 10.7 x 5.8 landscape and that works well. Also works for regular DVD just increase the height. All on letter size paper. It won't accepy 10.8 width,it auto reset to 10.7

    boofer,
The problem is probably related to the printable area allowed by your printer. Most printers have a limit as to how wide and tall the printable area is. This can not be solved by the print program used. If you try to print beyond this area that portion outside of the printable area is cut off. You may be able to find the information as to max print area in your printer specs. I have an HP photosmart 7960 whose print area is large enough to accommodate the full area of a DVD cover insert on letter size paper. My Canon Pixma Pro 9000 has a slightly smaller print area and I have to resize the long dimension by a small amount. Most photo editing programs will allow you to resize the image to match the area available for the printer once you determine what it is. Hope this helps.
