    HI,
    I'M SORRY IF I HAVE POSTED MY QUESTION ON THE WRONG FORUM.
    I WOULD LIKE TO CONVERT MY AVCHD FILES TO THE BEST POSSIBLE QUALITY FORMAT.
    I WILL BE USING COREL DVD COPY WHICH CAME ALONG WITH MY VIDEOSTUDIO PRO X2.
    THERE ARE QUITE A CHOICE OF FORMATS AND I AM UNSURE AS THE BEST OPTION.I EVENTUALLY WANT TO MAKE A PAL DVD FOR USE ON A DVD PLAYER TO VIEW ON TV.
    ANY ADVICE WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED,
    SULLIVEN.

    MPeg2 is required for a universally playable DVD It also must be 720x576 or 704x576 standard definition.

    Hello,

    Thanks a lot for your prompt replies edDV & jagabo.
    I just wondered if there was a different format as I'd never used AVCHD before.
    Well many thanx for the answer to my question....not much room for error there.

    All the best and thanx for your time,

    Sulliven.

    Alternative is Blu-Ray but playback would require a Blu-Ray player.

    Other alternatives exist for computer playback.

    Hi,

    Thanks again edDV much appreciated your help.
    I have Blu-Ray on my computer so I may try it just to compare the difference in quality.
    I originally thought there might be a better quality to MPEG-2 with AVCHD but not to worry.
    I am still very much a beginner but then you probably noticed that already lol.

    All the best and thanx again.

    AVCHD was designed for compression to flash media as first goal. Quality is not up to HDV currently but may improve in the future. Problem is each camcorder is locked in hardware to the time of product introduction. There are no performance updates for hardware based codecs.

    Hi,

    I tried converting my AVCHD to Mpeg2 - 720x576 which it did no problem.
    The problem was the video was being stretched from top to bottom making things taller than they really were.
    I apologise if it something simple or stupid but I have very little or no experience with AVCHD.
    I was using the Corel DVD Copy 6 to convert the files.

    If you look at 16:9 "wide" 720x576 on a square pixel monitor it will appear horizontally squished. That is normal. If the file is flagged as wide, the DVD player will stretch it back out wide for playback at the selected resolution.

    SD Wide = 1024x576
    720p = 1280x720
    1080i = 1920x1080

    If you set the DVD player to SD letterbox, the image will be vertically rescaled.
