Hi, I am having a problem with certain movie files, where if there is a subtitle file present then the movie will not play in WMP11. If I run the movie w/o the subtitle it plays fine and if I play the subtitle on another movie the subtitle works fine.

If I play the problem movie and subtitle together with VLC Player it works fine too. I've tried using Subtitle Workshop to save the subtitle in different formats and that doesn't help. I've tried the following subtitle formats: sub, smi, srt. The movie files are avi's.

When I load a problem movie with a subtitle, WMP just acts as if its stopped. WMP never shows a running or total time, which usually shows up after a movie starts playing, and the screen just stays black.

I need the movie to play in WMP for compatibility with another program.

I'm running WinXP MCE with all windows updates using the newest Klite Mega codec pack. I'm displaying the subtitles with DirectVobSub.

All the movie and subtitle files are the exact same name in the same folder.

    Thanks
    Brent

  3. Do the problematic movies have non mod16 dimensions (not evenly divisible by 16)? Check if the different movies that work have mod16 dimensions

DirectVobSub + DirectShow Players (including WMP, MPC) have issues playing back movies with non mod16 dimensions.

If this is the reason, you would have to re-encode and resize the movie.

Neither of those movies have mod16 compliant dimensions.

FWIW, Windows Media Player is a very average media player with limited capabilities. VLC is better, although not as good as it used to be. I like The KM Player, which will also probably plays these files, with subs, without issue.

Hi, yea i don't like using WMP but my media has to be able to play in WMP or it won't work with this Xbox360 streaming software that I run. Does anyone have any tips to troubleshoot this issue? I mean both movies are not mod16 compliant but one plays fine and one will not play when using subtitles. Both of the movies play fine in WMP without subtitles.

    Thanks

  7. For X360 try http://tversity.com/ Free.

But I haven't been able to get my x360 to load subs to stream to my x360 (haven't tried tversity). It would have to be hard subbed.

Hey, yea that is the program I am using. But since some of my movies do not play in WMP, they will not play on my xbox. However, the main issue I'm trying to fix is why do some movies with subtitles play, while other movies with subtitles will not play. All the while, any movie I play without subtitles plays just fine in WMP. I believe this to be just a computer issue, not TVersity, related.

    Thanks
    Brent
