Hello,
I've taken some interest into making little film with a new camera that I got in a care package from back home in the states. I was able to find out that the output is indeed AVCHD(.mt2).
Now here is my question. Can anyone point me in the right direction, as to what profile/project settings to use to output all the edited AVCHD format? I've tried different combinations, but to be quite honest I don't have the slightest idea of what I'm doing. I'm able to output the video to avi, but unfortunely I only get sound and no video.
My other question is, I need to edit some AVCHD video in After Effect. Is it possible to import AVCHD video to vegas, then output it in a format where I don't loose quality but After Effect can edit? After I make changes and add my special effects to the file, I want to ouput it through AE to import back into vegas to edit into the rest of the movie. If all this can be done with the minimum quality loss would be great.
Please keep in mind I'm currently in Iraq, so a lot of the software isn't available. A lot of the forums and stuff are blocked by our strict internet proxy's, so I'm glad to have found one that isn't blocked.
Thanks for the help.

you might try importing the original source vids into vegas and rendering them out as HUFFYUV lossless avi so you can do your edits and move it back and forth to after effects without generational loss. when you're done editing render out to whatever your final destination requires. here's a guide to converting to huffyuv with vegas.

the huffyuv codec can be downloaded directly from the tools section here. -
What is your goal with the video? For computer playback I would try use the mp4 container with h264 and aac audio(if possible in vegas then). Play the mp4 using for example VLC Media Player or install ffdshow and play in wmp.

@ mini:
Thanks for the guide, sound like something that is going to work for me, I'll give it a try in a few mintues.
@ baldrick:
Given the condition out here, I'm going for computer playback. Like I said I'm not really to experience with all the different formats so I'm a bit lost when it comes to rendering out the final project.
I don't have a problem with the files being huge, between 4 hard drives I have close to 1TB of space. Two of them are externals, but regardless it is still space.
Thanks a lot for the quick replies, I'm going to give this a try and post back later with the results. -
Do you have any other guide? Unfortunetly that website is blocked.
