    Hi,
I wanted to add chapters to a custom DVD.
I used PgcDemux and Muxman and it works fine except that the colours of the subtitle have completely changed during the process

    Original subtitle

    Subtitle after remuxing

Any idea what could cause the transformation?

  2. Subtitle colors aren't determined by the BMPs making up the SUP file but by the colors that overlay those BMPs. Those colors are given in the IFOs. Since Muxman didn't know the colors, it just gives you some useless crap. It's your job to set the final subtitle colors. Unless you're replacing the DVD back into the original one using VobBlanker, in which case the original colors will be retained. Doing it using PGCEdit is the easier and faster way, but DVDSubEdit has a guide for doing it:

Thank you Manono. The life saver as usual.
I had read the DVDSubEdit guide but I missed the fact that Muxman created a new IFO and all information contained in the original one was lost until you made it crystal clear.
As you suggested I did the replacement, using PGCEdit and it works.

So I guess there are 2 solutions when there is no menu as was the case here:
    1) Replacing the modified VTST in the original DVD
    2) Changing the colours with DVDSubEdit
, which I also did and it works fine as well.

But I have a concern about the 2nd option. The guide gives 2 methods. It says that the 1st one, remapping the colours changes the Vob files. Does this have any impact on the quality of the video?
It does not seem to, at least to me. I would like your opinion on that.
Unless I missed something, again, in the 2nd method, you can only change the colours but not the transparency. I would expect the transparency information to be included in the CLUT as well.
    Looking forward to your reply

No, nothing is done to the video.
...in the 2nd method, you can only change the colours but not the transparency.
But you weren't having transparency issues, were you? If you were, you couldn't use PGCEdit for the job because (as far as I know) you can't adjust any transparencies in there. You could, though, import the original subtitle information from the original DVD, or any other DVD for that matter. To be honest, I've used PGCEdit probably 99% of the time (and I change the colors a lot). The few times I've used DVDSubEdit to fix sub colors and transparencies I used whichever method allowed me to use that transparency slider. And afterwards I used PGCEdit anyway to tweak the final colors. That probably doesn't answer your question though.

Since it was the first time I faced that problem and thus the first time I used DVDSubEdit, I thought I had a transparency issue but after further test, I realised that I didn't.
My question is not important, just me being fussy. I guess that, if the transparency information is not in the CLUT, it is probably in the VOB/sup file.
What is more interesting is that indeed I did not need DVDSubEdit and it could be done directly in PGCEdit, and instead of replacing the VTST, I could copy/paste the colours from the original DVD.
Thanks again for your great help and especially for explaining things simply and clearly, so that people like me can understand. I really appreciate.
