They have upcoming dvd players and most of them say Includes Windows Media Player. Does that mean, it will be able to play formats like avi, asf, mpg and possibly DIVX movies?

Not sure of the others but not DIVX - but who knows with apex there might/could be a hack eventually. But the claim is that they'll be able to play the microsoft version of DIVX.
edit - should have read the original post better. As far as the others, depending on which manufacturer produces the player many apex players can already play raw mpg files.
