  1. Hi there...

not sure which topic this should go under, so I chose this one.

I always rename my video files one by one by using G-Spot or Media Info so I can add some suffix information like:

instead of file name "animal.avi", I will use g-spot to determine codec/type and animal.avi will be renamed to, say, "Animal [Divxv5].avi".

My question is... is there a tool that can look at the file properties and rename a file based upon those properties? I'm sure there are for mp3 files... but I am looking for a tool for video files such as mpg, vob, avi, wmv, etc.

I'm thinking a basic gui where you can drag and drop a bunch of files and they'll be renamed based on the video properties of your choice, such as size, codec, length, etc.

... the problem is having to right-click on every file to view the info and then renaming can be very time consuming.

Is there a tool that resembels this, if not exactly?

Any info would be great... btw, i searched this site and own most of the freeware file rename tools out there, but none do what I am looking for. If I've overlooked an obvious solution, I apologize in advance.

  2. haha... i've finally stumped the world!!! It's taken me almost 10 years to think of a question that didn't have an answer... I'm so proud of myself.

Actually, I'm surprised there aren't others out there that use some file info in the file name and it would be great to batch the process.

I'm looking for a tool that will do this and if I find I will post the solution... If anyone else knows of a tool/utility to rename video files based on file properties (divx, xvid, mpeg 1, vcd, dvd, mpeg 2, etc) then please respond.

    peace

I am not surprised such a tool doesn't exist. There are some converters that include some of these details in at the time of conversion, but you are the first person to my knowledge that has asked to do this after the fact. It is a fairly specialised tool as well, given it would be a combination of media info and a batch renamer. Probably not that hard to write one, using the media info dlls.

    Perhaps you could set yourself a new project. . . . . .

Check out abcAVI Tag Editor - it lets you "tag" AVI files in a similar way to ID3 tags in MP3 files (Title, Director, Credits, Software, you name it). You can also use it to "export" the (multiple) AVI file list you've tagged in various (customizable) formats...create a DOS batch file that does something like

    REN "<original name>" "<Title> [<VideoCodec> <Videobitrate> <AudioCode> <AudioBitrate>.avi"

for each file in the list!

Nope, just took a while, lol

But to answer the question, go here > http://www.scarabee-software.net/en/download.html

28 minutes to find a solution using google ...

Hint to rename with codec info> %b %Vi.%e

If used on file named kite flying.avi ... and video codec is divx 3

    Then files new name becomes

    kite flying Mpeg L3 (0x0055) - DivX 3 LM (DIV3).avi

    Tada

Hi everyone, this has been niggling at me for years too....
I'll save you all hours of work here...
Grab your Favorite Renaming software and remove all the crap from your movie file-names firstly.
If you use Master File Renamer (MFR) you can build yourself a nice little collection of rules to execute frequently.
    File Renamer Basic
is also nice to use. There are plenty of others here at Snapfiles.
    Dont forget to download Siren.

Now, here's the "Expression" to use within Siren - Use COPY+PASTE (CTRL+C, CTRL+V)

    %b("]",")")("[","(")("."," ") (%Vi("Mpeg L3 (0x0055) - ")("(DX50)")("(XVID)")("XVID","XviD")("DivX 5","DivX5")%Vxx%Vy).%e

This Rule above will Create the following....

    Movie.Name.[2000].avi > > > > > Movie Name (2000) (XviD ###x###).avi
    > > > > > or Movie Name (2000) (DivX5 ###x###).avi

....with a few more codes, you could convert MPEG and MPG, or any other codecs.

PS: Did you know your Home DVDPlayer loves XviD + DivX5, please don't use any other Codecs.

I'm glad tools like this allow it to be done, but I honestly don't understand why someone would WANT to do that when there is already the feature supplied by Windows itself to show and/or sort by lots of different properties: codec, bitrate, fps, etc. Seems like an exercise in making filenames rediculously long, unwieldy, and not-as-sortable.

  11. The software that you are looking for is Advanced Renamer, google it! it is realy easy to find & download, it is free and easy to handle. Try it! I search for a while and the one that I found useful for my need was this. Cause I had a lot of videos from the different phones I have had and I wanted to order them by date. You can chose how you like to rename any video file and put many to rename in a short time. I hope have been helpfull 4 you!!
