I am totally inept when it comes to video, file formats etc. I have however been converting AVI files to DVD. This may be a totally lame question but can you convert an AVI file to a Blue Ray file? I would think not because the video data isn't there but I wanted to know for sure. What is the file format for a Blue Ray DVD file? I am not even sure what to look for to research this stuff but I was wondering what it would take for someone to convert a ripped blue ray DVD to a Blue Ray DVD file? Is a Blue Ray disc even different than a DVD disk or is it just the way a DVD is written. So much to know and learn. Thanks.

Yep. Use for example d2mp or ripbot264 and you can convert directly to blu-ray. https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/all-in-one-blu-ray-converters , https://www.videohelp.com/hd#filestruct

But if your source is not HD I don't see the point.
