As you may already know, Apple has finished QuickTime 6 and is ready to release it. BUT Apple is arguing with MPEG-LA (holder of the MPEG4 license) cause they want every QT 6 user to pay a license fee.
Read the details here: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2002/feb/12qt6.html
QT 6 brings a bunch of cool features. The most important is MPEG4 support (the official, open standard [.mp4]) and MPEG2!! With the MPEG2 support it's possible to play SVCDs on a mac. In the beginning propably only extracted MPEG2 files but later on some ppl will develop a "real" SVCD player.
And QT6 should also fix that nasty DivX bug that forces us to extract the MP3 track. That would mean no need for Avi2Mov or DivX Doctor anymore!

So. Best way to release QT6 ASAP is to either mail Apple or MPEG-LA (I mailed MPEG4-LA).
Remember to be polite since it's the only way that leads somewhere.
