  1. i am having troubles with burning DVD-R discs with this recorder. It is an external version. When i try and burn a dvd-r, the programs come back with the error message of incompatible disc or an illegal disc. i have tried it with Nero Vision and the regular nero burning program. i have tried other programs and have got the same message. the media i have tried are sony and memorex(they multi-colored pack). the back pack dvd drive reads that the dvd-r is empty and ready to record. but everytime the invalid dvd-r thing happens. i have burned cd-r's with just music on it and that works fine. if you all need anyother info about this please let me know. i have used this backpack dvd-rw drive before many times and it has worked fine. this problem is new to me. thanks for your help.

Two possibilities come to mind, either media issues or possibly what you are trying to burn. It is sometimes a matter of trial and error to find media that is supported by a player. The first step would be to ensure the burner has the latest firmware installed. After that, try using a quality media. Verbatim and Taio Yuden provide the highest quality and most consistent results.

You may also want to try a different burning application. ImgBurn is one of the best and it's free.

http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/How-to-Flash/binflashgui ... get the utility and read how

If you have problems with not being able to flash the unit, you might need to remove it from its external housing and install it directly into the system.

  5. i used binflash and the firmware and it still isn't working. the flashing and loading the new firmware process went fine. no problems or error in the Binflash program. the buring programs or burner, is still recognizing my blank DVD-R's as incompatible or illegal discs. when i go to disc info when the blank dvd-r is in the drive, it reads it as a black dvd-r and it plays dvd movies, it just wont burn discs. when i ran the firmware it said it was a No Bootcode Version. it said that because i might have downloaded the wrong firmware. I downloaded these versions:

    Binflash: Win32 GUI v. 1.46A (http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/)
    Firmware: Original NEC 1300 Firmware 1.0C (http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/NEC-ND-1300A/)

I don't know if i have the correct binflash or the windows i have (XP Home Edition) or the most up to date firmware. if
Bjs or anybody else can help me out i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

  6. A good burner in these days is $20 to $30 some ship free and are around $25. Check www.cdfreak.com and look at reviews. In my opinion the hasstle + coasters will cost you more than $25. Image burn is the best just drag and drop files and folders into it. Nero is like installing an OS plus spyware combined. Consider a pioneer.

  7. i would love to just get a new burner for an easy fix. but i dont have the money to get one. yeah, $25 is cheap, but its that, plus the fact i dont know how to install a cd drive in the computer so i would have to pay for that. last time i had that done it cost me $100. all together im looking spend $125 dollars for a new burner. i cant do that right now. i would rather find the quick fix for the one i have now. it reads and plays CD and DVD, burn onto CD-Rs just fine. it just is having problems with burning to the DVD-R because it say the disc is illegal or incompatible. yet the drive can read that it is an blank DVD-R. i dont think i need a new burner, i think i just need to get some program or something that will make this burning drive work. i have ImgBurn and tried using it, it just isnt working out for me.
