Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
-
My games came Wednesday. I finally had the opportunity to test them this morning. They all seem to work just fine.
Oh and I did start the lineage and legacy chapter in Graces the other day. I'm suspecting something will happen to sophie on fordra with the lastillia acting up and mutating the monsters. But I'll find out when I finish it.
----------------
By the way are there any other realtime battle system jrpgs I should check out? I now have the Gamecube and a PS2 so I can basically play anything.
Oh I haven't picked up the two tales of Destiny ps1 games yet. THey'll be on my list down the road. But other suggestions are welcome too(this gen also if any are worthy
)

IIRC, the seven Dot Hack games for PS2 have Real-Time battle systems, especially the last three of the series (GU).
Grandia (PS1) and Grandia III (PS2) have semi-real-time battle systems.
The voice acting in Grandia 1 is pretty cheesy, but I like that kind of stuff.
Grandia X-Treme (PS2) and Granda II (PS2) have similar battle systems to 1 and 3.
I didn't like X and II, but YMMV.
Oh, and as a Turtles Fan, here's a bit of trivia:
Cam Clarke does the voice acting for the Hero in Grandia II. -
i did see grandia on the psn. ill have to look into it more.
i dont know anything about .dot hack. i will have to look up those sometime.
i did not get around to wtching any of the tales animes yet. but i did just get past the little queen battle on fodra
by the way cam clarke? the only turtles i know are the 90s live action ones, the recent cgi one with patrick stewart and of course the original 80s cartoons. i dont know that nameDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Cam Clarke did the voice of Leonardo, in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series.
The Dot Hack Series also involves a number of animated Series and specials.
Here's the order in witch the Animes and Games should be seen:
The "LIMINALITY" Anime disks are included in the box with each of the first four .hack// games.
So, before buying the first four .hack// games used, be sure to check the contents of the Game Case.
*The ".hack//G.U. Terminal Disk" is a hard item to find.
It is a Bonus Ps2 Game Disk that was included in the "Limited Edition" release of G.U. Vol 1, but not the "Standard Edition" release.
Game Saves of Clear Data from the GU Games, unlock additional content on the Terminal Disk.
If you are unable to obtain the ".hack//G.U. Terminal Disk", it's okay, as you can still play the G.U. games without it.
I just checked Netflix. They have all Three disks of .hack//Legend of the Twilight anime, and
all Six disks of the .hack//Roots anime.
Unfortunately, they don't have the .hack//SIGN anime series anymore.
Anyway, the dot hack saga requires a huge investment in your time, so ya may wanna hold off for a while.

Now that I have a gamecube and ps2 again I was thinking about some of the old star wars games. I know they had rogue squadron games for the gamecube. Did they ever re-release the original n64 rogue squadron on the gamecube? I haven't started looking yet and I probably won't buy it right away.
Were there any decent star wars games for the ps2 besides battlefront? I don't want to get that but I know they had some prequel era star wars games that I'm not interested in.
Did they have jedi outcast on ps2 or was it just the xbox? Was it backwards compatible? I could play that again if it is either for the ps2 or backward compatible (I don't have a physical xbox 1 just the stuff thats bc for the xbox).
Edit -also did they ever rerelease shadows of the empire on gamecube?
edit - don't know if this all inclusive but a quick google search got this for gamecube:
rogue squadron 2
jedi knight 2 jedi outcast
clone wars
bounty hunter
rogue squadron 3
lego star wars
lego star wars 2
I think bounty hunter might be interesting I'll have to check videos of it. I know I don't want clone wars nor the lego games - not against them just don't want to waste time or money on them. Definitely interested in the rogue squadron and jedi knight game - though it might be of better quality on the ps2 if it was also released there.
Edit - ps2 games
starfighter
super bombad racing
racer revenge
jedi starfighter
clone wars
bounty hunter
battlefront
lego star wars
revenge of the sith
battlefront 2
lego star wars 2
force unleashed
clone wars republic heroes
I'm not interested in any of these for the ps2. Certainly not the racing games. Bounty hunter might be promising again I'll have to check it out sometime.
So know it looks like its either gamecube or xbox for jedi knight outcast. Probably xbox assuming its bc.Last edited by yoda313; 9th Dec 2012 at 09:50.

Sorry for the late reply ~ Have been very busy lately.
I'm not up to speed on the Star Wars Games, so I can't offer any hands-on advice.
However, you could use the search function [Link] at GameFaqs.com, to find out what games were released for what system.
You'll need to click on each title, to check and see what regions they were released in. -
Thanks joe the dude.
I just finished Halo 4 last night. It was a little bit of an odd ending to me. I won't say anything about it since its still really new (barely a month old isn't it??). Anyway still a very solid game. Though a bit too easy on normal as I finished each chapter in roughly an hour playthrough time. But its still a top quality game still. Now I'll be onto mulitplayer sometime.
-------------------------
Regarding the Star Wars games - I'll have to check around for the few I want. There is a local used game store around that says it carries all the systems. Gamestop stopped carrying lots of the older stuff and only has a small selection of ps2 and gamecube games, no cartridges anymore except for some gba titles I think but not console cartridges.
---------------------------
I did look around more on youtube and finally found a clean straightforward videowalkthrough for the Lastallia shaft in Tales of Graces F so I should be able to make the push to finish the last chapter in that game.
-----------------------------
Also I'm off all next week (during the holiday week) so I'm planning on tackling one of the tales games for the ps2 or the one for the gamecube. I don't know if I'll be able to finish it but I do have a lot of time off and I'm not traveling anywhere.
Oh also I was just at another game store today and picked up a used disc of .dot hack sign with the first five episodes. I thought I'd check out one of the series and see if its worth digging up more of it online.
Its nice to have Assassins Creed 3 and Halo 4 out of the way. I still have the post credit missions for AC3 and the post credit mission for Tales of Graces to do but I'm not in a "rush" mode now to get those done. I can take more time to enjoy the games more fully now. I just wanted to get the newest games mostly finished before doing anything else.
Edit - oh and that place I got the dot hack disc had really cheap ps2 games and picked up two Naruto games. I am pretty sure those aren't the rpg types I'm looking for but the two games were only 3.00 so I'm not out much. I think those are hack and slash button mashers but I thought I'd give them a spin and try em out. I no nothing about naruto (not even sure how to spell it). But it might be fun for a little bit.Last edited by yoda313; 15th Dec 2012 at 15:05.

Update.
Ok I finally got into Tales of Symphonia on the gamecube.
I'm 2 hours in and they are just getting into the journey. I think I like this one. The pacing seems good. The action is more similar to vesperia than graces in that you can jump. Though it doesn't have the true free run that vesperia had - at least I don't know how to do that yet if you can.
I will enjoy this one.
I haven't started any of the animes from the tales series yet. I will at some point.
--------------
Regarding Graces.
I am at the final Little Queen battle. I have had quite a few bouts but no luck yet. I got down to 2000 or so hp before being completely ko'd so I'm pretty close.
I at level 76 right now and I'm working to do a little level grinding before going further. I think I'll be able to tackle it with a little more xp and a little higher health level maximum.
I"m also level grinding for Halo 4 multiplayer which I'm really liking.
I'm trying to maximize my gaming while I'm on break. I'm still doing other stuff with family and friends of course but I'm trying to knock down some games while I can. I don't think I'll finish Symphonia but I plan to get pretty far at least.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Well I haven't finished Symphonia yet. I'm about 12-13 hours into it and I definitely like it. I think I three seals done - the last one I just finished was the wind one in that cave/ruins dungeon near luin I think was the town - near the top of the world map. It was after getting to the tower of mana and finding out it was locked. I'll have to dig into how to get into it.
I also haven't started any of the tales anime series yet.
However I have been on a mission to watching my rather large collection of anime that I have laying around. I've copied it to my tablet in one form or another and have basically been trying to watch at least one show a night to get through it.
I don't know how many I've gone through since I've started this journey but its been satisfying.
I'm not going to be buying any new games for awhile. I still have symphonia and the 2 ps2 tales games to go through before I consider new games. Also I have RAGE on the ps3 that I haven't even opened. I also have 3d dot game heroes that i'd like to tackle again sometime.
And I will also tackle the final boss fight for Tales of Grace F someday. I do want to fully end that game.
Just thought I'd give an update.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Progress report time:
I'm about 20 some hours into symphonia. I'm on tethy'llya or however you spell that other world in the game. I'm in the university town where you find out Collette needs a key crest.
I'm curious, I'm still on disc 1. I would have assumed once I went to the other world I would have switched to disc 2. When does that happen? How long is this game?
What is on disc 2? Is it a bunch of anime cutscenes that couldn't fit on one disc?
I have definitely liked Symphonia. It will be nice once I do finish it. Then I will get back to finishing Tales of Graces F and the last battle with the little queen.
Just thought you might want to know....Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
How long is this game?
Most seem to complete when you are about lv. 50.
But gamefaqs.com can give you plenty of info on every aspect of any game. -
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
-
In one with more than one disk, the second one often is not as long as the first one. Gamefaqs has walkthroughs that you can get for free that say where you are in your game.
-
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying Tales of Symphonia.
I can't quite remember when I switched to Disk 2,
but I do recall that Disk 2's Game-Time was shorter than Disk 1.
By the way, I just read that the USA Release of Tales of Xilla (For PS3) is August 8'th.
Hopefully that'll give ya enough time to get caught up with all of the other Tales Games, and Animes, and the other games and shows you are interested in.
If not, well, it's always better to have too much to do, than to have nothing to do. -

My game play cycles are in spurts. I'm switching between my bluray backup sessions and gaming sessions in my free time. Some weeks I'll go an hour a night on Tales and some weeks I'll only put in an hour or two on the weekend.
I do want to finish it and start the two ps2 Tales games that i picked up on your recommendations (though if I remember right you liked one better than the other). Plus I have a few other games to tackle.
I wouldn't mind picking up Final Fantasy 13 (the first 13) again. I think I was about ten hours in or so. They already became the other beings that were being hunted. Can't remember the name. Crysalsis or something. I think it started with a C. Anyway lots of fantasy and scifi stuff sounds alike and runs into each other so its hard to keep track if you haven't watched/played it lately.
Plus I do want to beat the Little Queen to completely finish Tales of Graces F.
Oh and I think I mentioned I bought that El Shadia whatever game on the xbox 360 when Xbox Live had it on sale for 5.00. Someday I'll start that. I also have Rage on the ps3 I still haven't opened.
However I'm trying to stick to my promise to try to finish a game before buying another. Though the El Shadia thing was a bit of impulse buy and not a big investment at just 5.00.
I still have a few movies I haven't even opened yet. I also only watched one of my Jackie Chan 8 movie pack I bought early last year. Operation Condor 1 I think it was. I do want to watch some of the others.
One day. I promise.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Ok I dug into symphonia this week and really did some grinding.
I just got through the volt spirit section in the temple of lightning.
I was really proud of myself for getting through most of the puzzles in that dungeon. However the stupid lightening machine that had the yellow blocks that made up the circuit where you had to activate the machine to knock the boulder down drove me nuts.
I was actually two steps away from getting it right. I was already on the yellow sorcers beam for the yellow blocks. However I couldn't figure out which blocks to hit. Also it turns out you had to deactivate all but one of the lightning rods. I didn't know that. I broke down and went to the web for the details. I then got the right block order I needed and realized it said you needed only one lightning rod on. So I went back to the beginning of the dungeon and deactivated the last of the lightning rods and it worked.
I could have kept trying for a long time on that but frustration does not lead to fun game play. Though I am proud I got that far in the dungeon. The one thing I hate about certain puzzles are ones where its totally trial and error without much of a pointer from the game itself. That drives me crazy. But I was almost there so I just used the net as a crutch to move the game along.
I guess I'm in part 5 from the game guide. I'm just over 30 hours in now. The scary thing is the ign game description said it was a 100 hour game! I'm assuming that means if you do all of the side quests and everything. I'm not looking to do that.
I did about 60 hours or so in both Tales of Vesperia and Graces F and got a lot of enjoyment out of them even though I didn't go for full or nearly full completion. I'm looking to do the same in Symphonia.
I'm not sure if I want to go get another WII just for the Symphonia sequel. I'll have to think about that. I do have the other two Tales games on the PS2 to go through plus the previously mentioned games I'm interested in.
By the way:
Are there any other noteworthy jrpgs on the Gamecube I should consider besides Symphonia?
Right now this is the only game I'm interested in for the gamecube. Once I finish it I'll just pack it up and store it away somewhere. If there is another series worthwhile for the Gamecube I'll keep it out and hunt the game down.
Thanks again.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I can't think of any other JRPGs for The Cube, but there's two Zeldas; Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
There's also
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Luigi's Mansion
Super Mario Sunshine
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is also on the GC, but I couldn't really get into it. -

However I do remember another thread regarding some Star Wars games. Or was it this thread? I could still get into the Rogue Squadron games and whichever Jedi Knight games hit the gc. But thats a ways down the road.
-----------------------
Fyi I just got through the renegade base on tethylla (spelling?) I've got the flying reinard thingys back and now back on the hunt to track down Collete again.
I definitely like the game a lot though I'm not planning on going a full hundred hours on this. I just want to crack on and get to the end.
Thanks.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

I'm on part 6 skies of tethe'alla (I copied that I can't remember how to spell it otherwise). They have the start of disc 2 as part 8 so I'm not far off from switching discs.
I'm just over thirty hours in and somewhere in the low 30s with the leveling. Im at that ice city whatever its called. I started at the dungeon that is pitch black but I don't know how to get to the research team that isn't in the capital city.
I'm trying to use the guides as little as possible. I only want to use them for frustrating puzzles that don't seem logical to me. Though I seem to be getting better at these tales puzzles as I don't have to rely on the guides quite as much.
I'd say putting 60 or so hours into this one looks about right given where I'm at in the list above. I seem to be getting at this game in spurts of a few hours here and there and then nothing for awhile and then back at it again.
I'll enjoy watching the anime of the game afterwards. Even if its not a recreation of the game itself it should be enjoyable. I haven't watched it in awhile but I did like the Tales of Vesperia First Strike anime even though its kind of an alternate reality verision - sort of (I have it on bluray).
So just thought I'd give another updateDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I finally made it to disc 2 the other week.
I am now to the part where Lloyd has to battle Kratos for the last time. So I am in the beginning of the end part according that list up there.
The only thing I don't like about this game is there odd save point placement. Sometimes I only get an hour to play and the dungeons/forest maps don't have save points at the beginning. This one at the end of the game in the Elven forrest is maddening that it doesn't have a save point in the beginning. I have to start that part over now.
I'm about 58 hours in and that doesn't include lost time that wasn't recorded due to maddening save point locations when I can't save in a timely manner.
All in all though I do enjoy the game. Though as has been mentioned I do go online from time to time to get past some puzzles I don't want to waste hours on. I do still try them at least once or twice or more.
Hopefully with another long playing session I can finish this game. When I do I'll tackle the anime which should be fun though I do understand it has been mentioned it is different from the game which is ok.
I think I'll take a short break from rpgs after this. I might finally open my copy of RAGE for the ps3. A nice shooter would be a good change of pace, though I do know from reading and watching reviews when it came out that RAGE doesn't have the best of all endings.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Yeah, the save point spacing is kinda weird in that game.
I just heard that Tales of Symphonia 1, and Tales of Symphonia 2: Dawn of the New World,
are gonna be re-released, as HD Remakes, with extra content, on the PS3!
They're going to be bundled together, and get released in the US and Europe, next year.
So, if ya haven't gotten a Wii (or Wii U) yet, for ToS 2, ya won't need to. -

Lets just hope they don't get all trigger happy and make it a ps4 only exclusiveI'm not ready for that - It'd be cheaper by far to buy the Wii instead, heck buying a new Wii would be cheaper than that for just one game.
Though of course in time I'll have both a ps4 and xbox one.
From the looks of it though I think I"m leaning more towars the xbox one as my first next gen purchase. Whether thats next year or two years from now is another story. Probably when halo 5 comes out that will twist my arm and my credit card
Edit - unless Uncharted 4 comes out before Halo 5 at which time the ps4 would be my first choiceDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I finished it!!!!!!!
I finished it Wednesday.
I like it.
The only odd thing was I thought Sheena's town in Mizuo or whatever it is called wanted to go Sylveraant and now they are staying to become the best ninja clan ever?
And they didn't make it clear what happened with the merging. Did it become one planet than?
Also they were going to name the new mana tree. They ended it before they named it. I'm guessing it is called SYMPHONIA then huh? I mean they mention symphonia in the game so if this is TALES OF SYMPHONIA I guess that means the tree is called Symphonia????
Other than those few questions on the ending I did enjoy it.
And the ending was well paced enough and no nasty puzzles so I was able to do it without using a guide for the last stretch there.
I did end up just over 60 hours or so.
I look forward to watching the Tales anime now that i've finished the game.
Oh and I picked up a used copy of Ni No Kuni, I used a 20% off coupon I had from my birthday that gamestop sent for being a member, I got like 7 or 8 bucks off so not bad.
I forgot though that tales of xilliia is coming out next month. Though I may not get that right away since I jumped on the Ni No Kuni game. And I still have the two ps2 tales games to go through.
I don't know when I'll start Rage. Who knows.....
Anyway just thought you'd like to know.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Woo-Hoo! Congrats on beating Symphonia!
It did become one BIG planet, and reawakened something you have to deal with in the sequel.
I think you're right about the name of the tree; I'm not sure; it's been a while. -
Thanks joe the dude
It has been a mission of mine to see it through to the credits of my games. It is definitely satisfying to see the credits after putting 60 hours into a game.
And this time it only took me 6 months to beat a Tales game instead of the three years for Vesperia - though in all honesty I took more than a year and a half off from that game.
Thanks for that on the planet issue.
I can google it for the tree name it if I get real curious.
The sequel - I'll wait for the hd remake. That way I won't have to waste money on buying another wii just for one game.
And since I still have quite a few games to get through still I won't have a shortage until it comes out.
Not to mention Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag is out in the fall I think - Ahoy ye scurvy scoundrel - or something like that arrr!!! Pirate talkDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Howdy
Well I decided I'll be purging some games I haven't played in a long time.
I have also decided to get rid of the first Final Fantasy 13 game I have. I haven't picked it up in ages. And with the ps2 Tales games and Ni No Kuni to go through I decided I don't think I'll be visiting that game again anytime in the near or distant future.
I think what I'll do is put my trade in towards Tales of Xillia whenever it comes out - preorder I mean.
I do like Ni No Kuni. Its much more of a typical story book type game than the tales games. Or at least it doesn't have the 5 or six or more companions along for the ride yet (don't know if there will be, I'm only 2 or three hours in so don't tell me if you do get more companions).
Only thing thats weird is the mom's got a British accent and the kid doesn't.... anywhoo... Ok thats the only thing that stood out to me - obviously a talking fairy and another world are odd too but those are par for the course for an rpg
I think what I'm going to do is unlike with Symphonia where I fixated on one game I think I'll try to bounce from game to game. I'll try to start one of the two Ps2 tales games and then Tales of Xillia when it comes out.
I'll be juggling a bunch of games that way but this way when I get stuck on one I'll jump to the other. I think that will keep me from hating a game and getting mad at it.
I also have Assassins Creed 4 coming up sometime at the end of the year as previously mentioned.

Did anyone here play that Star Trek game? Ever since Xplay went off the air I haven't had my regular game reviews. I do get the Gamestop magazine but I don't think I saw that review unless its in the newest one that came the other day.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I am currently playing the Star Trek game. I am probably a little over 1/3 through with it. I don't know how much you know about it, but it takes certain liberties and interpretations with the franchise on the same lines as the new reimaged Star trek movies. Its pretty much a straight up shooter.
The voice acting is all the stars from the film, and for the most part, they did pretty good. You can play as Kirk or Spock, but from what I have read in reviews, they play the same, no matter which you choose to play as. For the most part you play as a two person team, with the one you didn't pick being a NPC, except for some simple commands/orders you can give him. Actually, I like the dynamic of being a team.
The game on review sites has received very negative reviews, from mediocre to bad. I like it so far so am still playing it, but I can understand why the reviews have been negative.
Some game mechanics can be frustrating, such as the same button to climb up is used to drop down. Also, there are some mini games you have to get through to continue the game. While not so difficult as to be impossible, they become tedious and monotonous at least to me. The save feature seems inconsistent, sometimes it saves often. But a few times I have had to repeat long sections inorder to experiment and try different things to progress forward.
There are also some bugs. For instance, I am playing as Kirk and I commanded Spock to do an action which was impossible for him to complete (but I didn't know it would be when I told him to do it), so he just kept continuously running in place trying to complete the command. No other command I gave him would over ride the previous command. You have to reset by reloading the last checkpoint. Another bug is sometimes when you get to an area, the game doesn't 'recognize' you are there and continue, I have to leave then come back and it sees me and then the game continues. -
@tearren - thanks for the review.
I did finally read up on it and it seemed like you what you were saying. Not very polished.
Too bad it could have been fun as it has been long time since there has been a Star Trek game of any type (other than the mmorpg and the top down arcade ship shooter).
I think I'll be passing on it.
As it is I'm farther along in Ni No Kuni and I'm glad I picked it up. Its a nice little game. So far not too challenging but not super easy either. I like being able to progress pretty steadily. So far at least.
If it turns into a typical rpg than later on I'll probably start getting bogged down on certain parts of the game. Hopefully it keeps this pace up and lets me progress with out too many frustrations.
Its a tricky balance between having a game being challenging but still fun. I don't like those ones where you torture yourself to get through it. But I don't want it to be super easy either.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
