I was recently in Atlanta and my cousin stated how he was moving away from DVD Disc and began storing media on his External Hard Drive. He says he hooked the External through the DVD Player via USB and was able to view his movies on his TV with no issues.
Is this possible?
If so, what DVD Players / External Hard Drive combinations should I get?
All help is appreciated.
Thanks

The Philips 5990 is one economical player that will do that. You use a external hard drive formatted as FAT32 to store the videos. Here's a link to the method I used: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDname=philips%205990&Submit=Search&Search=Search...&hits=50#70038
Other players will also work in a similar fashion. There are also stand alone hard drives that output video that you can hook directly to a TV. One example: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic358929.html -
Thanks for the reply. Does it matter the External Storage systgem I use?
I appreciate your help. -
The Philips needs a USB drive formatted in FAT32. USB flash drives also work. Most any external USB hard drive will work. The Philips does have a file limitation of 648 titles, but apparently you can use folders and have possibly that many titles in each folder. I used a 320GB USB HDD with no problems.
If you are interested in the Philps, it's usually available at Walmart. The files can be in Divx/Xvid format or MPEG. I would also recommend the firmware modification from vb6rocod: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic355675.html -
The Philips machine is also available from Amazon @ $54.99 (no tax & free shipping).

Here are some other sellers.....

Max of 648 files for Philips m/c. We really need to work on that other TV's issues.

Can you create a partition on an external hd, one for fat32 (for the dvd player), and the rest for larger format files not meant to be read by the dvd player?
