    What do I need to encode a movie in this format-nothing I have will even play it.

    Some of you may have seen this before-some stupid guy recoded these old movies and ruined them-I don't know how many people have ask for my help fixing them-I am just lost as to what he has done-If you update the VLC player to 9.2 it will play them but it's blurry. No other video program I have will even load them-

    You will be helping many others beside myself who love these old silly monster movies.

    Install ffdshow and h264 should work fine in most media players.

    And convert to h264 using xvid4psp,avidemux,handbrake,fairuse wizard, etc...what tool exactly depends on your SOURCE.

    Thanks-Installed the ffdshow-it opens in VLC but tells me it needs to be repaired and when it does it still just crashes any program I try to run.Too bad you didn't have it front of you-guess they are ruined after all.

    VLC doesn't need any external codec or program to work, ffdshow is for the other players to decode H.264. But it sounds like the file was corrupted at some point, so that may be the playback problem.
