    Maybe this helps:

convert the *SRT file to *SSA.
Load the AVI file in Virtual dub, add the subtitles with the subtitle filter, frameserve, and encode with TMPGEnc. (I suppose you want to create a VCD or SVCD)

  4. yes, i want to make a vcd..thanks...
but i can't get it to work... tmpgenc says that it's not a valid file, to compressed. and virtualdub is just a mess. But i'll keep trying, maybe i'll get it right...otherwise i'll ask for some more help...

  5. I tried to add the subtitles using the filter on VirtualDub, but when I select to start frame server, that little box "frameserver mode" appears on the screen and just stay there forever. There aren't any progress bar or time left. Does anybody know how long I have to wait to, then, convert it to SVCD??

  6. The frame server is doing just that, serving frames to another program (TMPGenc). Just load up the frame server file into tmpgenc (or whatever your encoding with) and vdub should serve the frames with the subs in place (assuming you have that part setup correctly).

  7. BINGO!!!

    It worked!!

    Thanks!!

Hmmm, could I ask you just one more question??
I am experiencing problems when loading some video files on VirtualDub. I have a lot of DivX files that when I try to open on VirtualDub, it says that the audio have to be recompressed otherwise I'll have some seconds of "skew from the video stream".
Do u know how can I fix that??

I am trying to do this following the guide on this site but TMPGenc just sits whilst checking the frameserver file ( *.vdr ) . Is there something else that needs to be set up in TMPGenc or VirtualDub ? I have tried on 2 machines with 3 different versions of TMPGenc .
