Well, after several days of messing around with the 64 Bit version, it seems OK. I'm just trying to find a compelling reason to upgrade from XP (which I realize is getting long in the tooth).

I wonder if Dell is going to do the same thing on Win 7 as they did for Vista

Try Windows update first. Then try a Vista hard drive controller from Acer. Mass storage is probably the IDE/SATA controller. Usually Windows will reject the wrong controller, so not a lot of risk.

Laptops are probably not a great candidate for a beta OS. They often have proprietary drivers, so hard to tell if there is one that will work.

  4. Well i have had windows beta 7 for a week now and its working great. I have no hang ups or ever had to restart it for any reason. I can move from apllications to every thing i want with no hesitation at all. I know people may like vista but as far as im concerned its junk. Yes there are people who may not like beta software but ,how long did it take for microsoft to release vista and they still couldnt get things right. I had no problem finding and updating all the drivers it was easy to install.

One reason is the ability to run as a limited user without wanting to rip your hair out.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

  8. I finally managed to get Windows 7 installed on my laptop. I was having trouble setting it up as a dual boot system. So far this is the only problem I have. My Vista partition which should be drive C: is not listed and the Windows 7 partition which should be drive I: is listed as drive C:.
