  1. I should know this - i'm not really a complete newbie. No doubt the answer is really obvious, but...

    I have an avi. If i right click properties, it tells me the data rate is 281 kbps. If i right click 'what's this' it tells me "also called bitrate...."

    If i drop the file in gspot it tells me the average bitrate of the file in kbps is 2192. Which is what i'd expect of a 24 minute 400 MB avi file.

    So what's the windows 281 figure all about, please, anyone?

    Thanks.

  2. Windows reports k Bytes per second. GSpot reports k bits per second.

  3. Yep, that's pretty simple, thanks jagabo. Crazy they use exactly the same nomenclature!

    Supposed to be

    b = bit
    B = byte

    m = milli
    M = mega

  5. Not if you right click an avi and then click properties in Win XP! It says kbps but actually gives the kBps figure.

    I'm sure you're correct, but someone should let Mr Gates know.

    I suspect it goes back to 80's internet cool where upper case was considered churlish.
