Is there a way to erase digital 8 tapes (including the embedded date & time) without suffering any degradation of future recordings? Thx, Scott

You need a tape degausser. (Note: These can be quite expensive.)

    Good luck!

No, every time it's written and/or erased/degaussed there is some degradation. Several re-uses are possible with no noticeable degradation, but eventually, (and this varies from tape to tape and manufacturer to manufacturer), wear will begin to present itself in your recordings. I personally don't reuse my tapes and keep the originals as an archive for possible future use.
