    Hi,

i dont have any problems with my other avi files, but this particular file i have just got will not play in MPC... It works in WMP though...

in MPC it comes up with the chunk viewer and then once i close that it then says MPC has stopped working... these are the details :

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: mplayerc.exe
    Application Version: 6.4.9.1
    Fault Module Name: ffdshow.ax
    Fault Module Version: 1.0.5.1967

I have divX, Xvid, ffdshow installed...

    why could this be happening?

start with a g-spot of the file in question, and perhaps a reinstall of FFDShow

i did a gspot on the file and it didnt come up with anything missing... dont know if there is anything else there for me to look at in gspot? i usually just use it to see if i am missing a codec...

if the other files dont have a prob then why would it be the ffdshow install? or could it be that they dont use it?

Post a screenshot of the GSpot window (with the AVI loaded) here.

What version of ffdshow do you have installed?

g-spot will also tell you if the file has been truncated, which cam make it difficult to play in most players.

I suggested ffdshow because that is where the fault message points.

Yeah, and also, it might not hurt to install the latest version of ffdshow(-tryouts), just to see if you still have the problem with the most recent build.

The reason I asked what version you're using is because I checked the build I have installed on this system - 1.0.5.2254, which has a build date of 10/26/2008... which means I haven't updated ffdshow since October. (Heh.)

Sounds like the AVI chunk index is missing/corrupt. Try loading it into VirtualDub & just doing a direct stream copy on both the audio & video streams...VirtualDub will re-mux the streams & rebuild a new index.
