Hi, I have 2 clips I'd like to join, one is a short video I recorded with my camcorder in DVD Video format (MPEG-2/AC-3) and the other is a long recording captured with the DOS emulator DOSBox. the problem is that the 2nd file is encoded with ZMBV (DOSBox's video codec) which is lossless and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't care encoding the 1st file at all, but I don't know if I can encode it to match the DOSBox recording which has 70.08630XXX frames per second at 320x200.

I tried using both VirtualDub and AviDemux to join and/or encode the clips but couldn't get them to match.

So basically what I wish to know is:
Is there a way to join different video files without matching them? And if not, is there a way to make the first clip (camcorder) match the second one?
And if non of these possible, what lossless codec I should use to re-encode both files and how do I match the different frame rates (25 FPS and 70.08630XXX FPS)?

  2. about your only hope is to convert them both to a compatible codec with the same encoding specs. you could try the lossless huffy or lagarith codecs.

    Damn, I feared as much

Anyway after a LOT of trial and error I managed to get a reasonable result, here's what I did eventually:
Opened the vob file with AviDemux (because vdub can't process AC3) and encoded the video as huffyuv and audio as wave (PCM).
opened the resulting file with VirtualDub, selected the part that I need, cropped the display area to 320x200 (filters>null transform) changed the audio sample rate to 22050 Hz (audio>conversion) because 22050Hz PCM is what is used in the other video. Converted the frame rate to 70.086 FPS (video>frame rate>frame rate conversion).
for video compression I used TSCC which is a commercial lossless codec from TechSmith that is optimised for this kind of video (screen capture) and produces an extremely small size.
The reason I didn't use TSCC with AviDemux is because I couldn't find a way to change the video codec to anything but the internal codecs (I've only used AviDemux for 2 days).

For the second video I only changed the video compression to TSCC (which is even better than ZMBV(I.E. same quality, smaller size)) and the frame rate to 70.086 (video>frame rate>source rate adjustment)

I hope this would help someone else with the same problem.

Oh, I forgot to thank you, minidv2dvd, for the quick reply
