Firstly i'm a newb here, thanks to all the mods etc for the great resource you have all provided.
I have looked extensivley through the forums here for some solutions to export m2ts files from my ps3 and burn them to dvd.
I have already discovered convertxtodvd here which has partially solved my problem but so far it is the only converter i have found that will render the m2ts to dvd, unfortunatley all the other converters seem to handle these files captured through playtv poorly with very poor output including jerky output or loss of audio. convertxtodvd will not allow for cropping either end of the file or editing out the ad breaks.
What i'm trying to find is a solution where i can do some simpe editing of the files to remove unwanted portions and then render these files with good results so i can burn them to a dvd that will work in my divx dvd player which doesnt recognise m2ts files. Ideally the m2ts could be converted and burnt as files on a data dvd rather than a full dvd so i could easily add videos to the dvd without having to do any rerendering or extract the iso.
Thanks

Xvid4PSP will handle t2ts files, and uses avisynth to load the files. It is simple to add basic trim statements into the scripts before processing. It will not create an authored DVD for you, but it will output DVD compliant mpeg-2.
You could also look at AVI Demux for trimming and outputting mpeg-2 video ready for authoring.Read my blog here.

with xvid4psp i couldnt fathom a method to cut out sections of the video, when trying to encode the original into a mpeg2 format the programme was going to take over 4 hours to encode an hour of video.
Avidemux looked great, cut out the unwanted portions set up to encode an xvid, followed the tutorial to the letter but the file it produced didnt show as a video file but an unknown file on my pc. it would however play in windows media player and nero but the audio was out of sync with the video.
Any pointers on where i'm going wrong would be appreciated as i like the look of avidemux it should do exactly what i want i guess i just need to sort the settings out.
One note is that the video i am trying to edit and encode was captured from the freeview DVB broadcast if that makes any difference.
Thanks

AVI Demux comes from the Linux world, where file types are determined by extension. It therefore doesn't automatically cal an mpeg .mpg. When you name your file, make sure you call it myfile.mpg or myfile.avi etc. For the one you have just done, rename it and add.mpg on the end and it will look OK in windows.
You can fix the delay in AVI Demux as well, once you have worked out what it is, and if it is a simple constant delay. If the delay comes after an edit it is much harder to address.
Assuming it is a simple delay, open the video in Media Player Classic, and use the + and - keys on the number pad to adjust the delay until you get it in sync. Note the amount you have adjusted it by.
Now open the file in AVI Demux, and make sure that Audio and Video are both set to Copy. Set Format to mpg, and tick the box marked Shift. In the empty field enter the number you found in Media Player Classic. Make sure you use the right direction as well, as you can adjust in positive and negative directions. Save the new video and test play it.Read my blog here.

nice one that sounds pretty simple, the sound delay only comes after i edited and encoded the file as an xvid. I'll play around with the file extensions and learn some more about how and when the sound delay appears then adjust the settings.
Thanks again

In case anyone looks here for an answer i have sorted the following
using avidemux i can trim the original files without any encoding. using the settings copy for video, copy for audio, tick the time shift and use -500 (ms) format use mpeg ts and save the file with the original .m2ts extension this will save a shortened version of the original file. Then use this file with convertxtodvd to get the video onto dvd that will play pretty much anywhere
cant edit out ad breaks yet nor could i work out what settings/values to use to convert the files to an xvid avi that my sony divx dvd player would play, so any ideas for that feelfree to help out
