  1. Hi,

just installed ffmpegx on my G5 Dual 2.7 with 4.5 Gb RAM. when I am trying to demux avi video ffmpeg reports "Unrecognized format". Avi file is totlally OK. It plays in VLC, QT, MPEG Streamclip and other players I have. It shows codecs in MediaInfo and in CMD+I and everywhere I can check for authenticity.

Do I have some problem with installation of ffmpegx or it is some mess in my codecs?

thank you in advance for any help or suggestion,
    kirti

ffmpegX does lots of things, but demuxing AVI files isn't one of them. Just not programmed to perform that task.
I'm not sure why one would demux an AVI, but D-Vision is one of the tools that can do it, although somewhat hidden in its many options (The Tools > Re-encode avi or mpg file > Copy/extract).

for one video (where picture is great but sound is bad) i need to replace original audio with the audio from another video. So, I was thinking to demux both videos with passthrough and mux good video with good audio.

Maybe you would recommend me other way to do it?

    thank you for your reply,

Demux means to separate; I don't know what you mean by "pasthrough" in this context. Demuxing will produce separate audio and video files. Once you have performed that demuxing, then simply mux the desired video and audio together to create a new AVI.
