I just install vdub and when I open up an avi file the error is :
couldn't locate decompressor for format 'xvid' (unknown)
virtualdub requires a video for windows (vfw) compatible codec to decompress video
So I understand I need a codec to decompress the video, but what codec do I use or download? I run other video programs and do not want it to disable them, like vlc. I did a search here but did not see any info on installation problems.
Con someone assist? I use this computer a lot so prefer not to down load a lot of stuff that may not work. thank youo

Install the Xvid codec. VLC uses its own (internal) codecs, so it won't be affected. It shouldn't really interfere with anything else, generally.
