I have ripped my dvd using dvdfab. I have then encoded/muxed, etc with xvid4psp (used the ps3/360) settings (h.264/mp4, aac-lc abr 128k). The video plays on my computer with sound properly synced, etc. I have copied the file to the ps3 and the video plays. The video quality is great. However no sound....well kinda. If I play the movie in a fast forward mode...x15 for example you get the sound...sped up of course. I am puzzled by this?
    Any thoughts?

Try remuxing - perhaps something glitched during Xvid4PSP's processing.

Try this. Load the encoded mp4 video into Xvid4PSP. Set the output as m2ts, and the video and audio encoding formats to Copy. This will remux, without re-encoding, both streams into a new container which the PS3 can play from.
