I bought a Hitachi DZ-BD70A F handheld Blu Ray cam. My problem is getting the images onto my pc for editing. The software that came with it (Image Mixer 3 HD edition) Sucks. My computer does not see the cam when it is plugged in via a USB cable except as another drive, but when I try to access it. It says it is in a file type not valid for windows (well of course its Blu Ray I guess)

I have Adobe Premier Pro CS3 to edit with but can not get the clips in there. through the Image Mixer I was able to save the files to my pc but only in a avi format. but when I try to look at these (outside of Image Mixer) or import through Adobe it tells me the file types are invalid or corrupt

Any ideas how I can get these in a usable format in Adobe?

    Thanks in Advance

Doesn't that camcorder use a 8CM DVD disc for storage, or do I have the wrong model?

  4. 8cm dvdr/w or bdr/w - probably needs to be finalized before being able to be read on a computer.

That could be it. I don't think it uses a BD disc, just a regular DVD and your computer should be able to read it without needing a BD drive.

EDIT: If you are using XP try UDF Reader

You are stuck with the software that came with it unless you buy a Blu-Ray drive and then hack out the file. These cams use proprietary USB drivers so nothing else can read it.

It records to H.264 (not AVCHD) so once you obtain the file, it will need conversion to something CS3 will accept.

Welcome to non-standard video production. What did you expect? XDCAM?

These camcorders are designed for people who don't use computers. Target customer just wants to play the disc in his Blu-Ray player. Done.

  10. Recording directly to Blu-ray disk is the only way to go. Forget the HDD models. Fast copy to pc for video editing saves alot of time. Just drag and drop the video file into your editing program and it copies it through the USB connection. Quality is great!!

some people seem to be able to copy the files off the bdrs.
