Hi All
I must admit that I know very little about video cards assisting with video encoding
I recently received an ASUS EAH3450 HDMI graphics card 256 MB PCI Express 2.0
One one hard disk I am running XP professional and on another hard disk Vista Home premium
How does the GPU assist in video encoding? Is this something that is done automatically? or do I need some special software?
I heard mention of DXVA - does this enable the GPU to assist in video encoding?
Re the latest ATI Avivo, I see that it only supporst the x1000 series and higher
Anyway, any help or suggestions are welcome
TIA

There are some encoders that will use the GPU, but by default the answer is no. Standard encoders only use the CPU for processing at this time. DXVA is used for playback assist at the moment.
Hopefully more encoders will incorporate GPUs into the mix sooner rather than later.Read my blog here.

There's Badaboom, but it works with Nvidia cards
