    Hi,

I just got a Sony video walkman with 16gb of memory. I've tried to load a dvd video onto it in .mp4 format (which is what it says is required), but when I try to play the file on the device, it says that it cannot play because of incorrect file format. Any suggestions?

I used the free Mediacoder http://www.mediacoderhq.com to convert any movie file to the MP4 format that my Sony Walkman NWZ-S710F requires. Here's what you have to do:

    1. Start Mediacoder and drag all the video files you want to convert to the list.
    2. Click on the Extensions icon on the toolbar. When it asks to use the online extensions, select No.
    3. On the window that pops up (from web browser) click on MP3/MP4 Players.
    4. Once that window opens up change Format to "MP4 (MPEG-4+AAC)" and click on Start to begin encoding.

The converted files will be saved in the output folder that is selected in Mediacoder.

You might want to change the following settings: Picture to 320x240 25 fps, and Quality to High Quality.

For manual conversion you should use the following settings:

    Video:
    Format: MP4
    Bitrate: 384 or 512
    Resolution: 15, 25, or 30 fps
    Audio:
    Format: LC-AAC
    Quality: 80 or 100
    Container: MP4

In Media Player Classic the output files have the following description:
Video: MPEG4 Video 320x240 [GPAC ISO Video Handler]
Audio: AAC 44100Hz stereo 3Kbps [GPAC ISO Audio Handler]

The output file has the following description in MediaCoder:
    Container: MPEG-4; Bitrate: 391 Kbps
Video: odivx; Bitrate: 384 Kbps; Resolution: 320x240
Audio: AAC/AAC+; Bitrate: 128 Kbps (VBR); Sample Rate: 44100 Hz; Channel: 2
