    Hi,

I have been using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's for ages now with a very compatible burner.
I was wondering if it's worth switching over to Bluray yet?
I was advised not to a while ago because of issues of it not lasting as long or something or was that a load of rubbish?

Also if i have a file on this machine that is for example this 'Death.Race.UNRATED.1080p.BluRay.x264-1920' could this just play ok using VLC on a 42" HDTV we have downstairs or would i need to change any settings to get the BEST out of the video quality?
Wouldi need to change any resolutions/widescreen settings or whatever?

    Please let me know guys.

    Many thanks

What are you storing on your dvds? Blu-ray media is still pretty expensive.

And just buy/rent death race on bluray and it will work fine.

BluRay media is still expensive as Baldrick points out. None of us can predict the future. There are people who think that BluRay won't survive. Just this weekend I read an article by some guy who thinks DVD will be completely dead in 3-4 years tops and BluRay will be the only game in town. I would personally consider that to be "wildly optimistic" to say the least, but that just illustrates how there are people who are predicting the death of every format there is. Heck, ancient VCD format is still with us after all these years and shows no signs of going away in Asia, so it just shows how hard it is to predict the future.

I guess the factors for you will be whether you feel that the extra cost of BluRay media is worth investing in because you'll need fewer discs for your files if you use it instead of burning to DVD, whether you believe the format will survive and how easy it is to play stuff you burn to BluRay discs.

Sorry, I can't offer any suggestions on using VLC to playback files on your HDTV.
