I am helping my brother upgrade his sound for his new TV. He is looking for a surround system around $3-400 and asked me about some of the HT in a box solutions. Some looked pretty good, but a few, mainly those that came with a separate receiver, not one built into a DVD player, did not list Dolby Digital encoding as one of their settings. Those all had DTS encoding. Will a DTS encoder work for Dolby Digital? I always thought that Dolby Digital was sort of the bottom line standard for 5.1 surround. Would there be a problem with his TV's audio (it's an HD LCD and he would hook it up with HDMI) or would there be some sort of compatibility problems?
I should mention that one of these units is by Yamaha, so it's not like it's an off-brand product.

The whole package is the Yamaha HT-390bl. I saw one at the store and didn't notice the model on the receiver. It specifically saya that it does DTS and Dolby ProLogicII. Dolby Digital isn't even mentioned in the specs.
