    Are there any software apps that embed subtitle files into mpeg2?

    Hardcode/permanent subtitles? Then use avidemux.

    Or do you want switchable subs in mpg file? Don't know if that is possible. Better to make a dvd with subs then.

    Yes hardcode/permanent subtitles. Does avidemux accept mpeg2 video? I will give it a go!

    EDIT: I am working with avidemux and I am a bit confused (my usual state of mind) about how to use avidemux. can I load an mpeg2 file that has not been demuxed, then choose the subtitle filter+subtitle file and then output as a mpeg.ts?

    Thanks

    Yes, you can load mpg files that not been demuxed. Under video choose mpeg2 and add the subtitle filter. Under audio choose copy.

    You can also try xvid4psp if you can't get avidemux to work. Load your mpg, load the subtitle, set the profile to mpeg2 and under audio choose copy.

    I think I have AviDemux working. I have created an mpeg2 with embedded subtitles but I have to work on getting the correct mpeg output. If you leave video as Copy you can not choose a filter so I am re-encoding using DVD (lavc). To embed a complete re-encode is required so I think I am on my way!

    Thanks again.

    My process flow in summary: DVDFab 5 ---> Video_ts ---> VRD ---> mpeg2 ---> AviDemux ---> mpeg2+embedded subtitle.

    It won't be embedded, it will be hard encoded. This means that you cannot turn it off, and you will have re-encoded your video

    I am new to subtitling so my lingo is off....I want my subtitles to be hard coded into the video and I am willing to re-encode provided I can re-encode to similar settings from the original mpeg2 file. What I am finding is that AviDemux has some sort of throttling built into the DVD (lavc) and I can not output an mpeg2 with a bitrate higher than around 2.5Mb/s.

    I am playing these files using a network media player that does not play ifo or iso nor mkv....therefore mpeg2 with hard coded subtitles should work.

    Looks like I am SOL though.

    As Baldrick suggested, Xvid4PSP can also encode to mpeg-2 and hard code subtitles from supported formats. Definitely worth a shot.
