Hi all!
I am going away for a few days, so I won't be around to reply, but I was wondering if any computer geniuses would be willing to take me under your wings and help me out. I've been trying to get into video editing for a few years now, and I've just about had it. I've had so many complications with my PCs and software, that I am at a point where it is too frustrating to even attempt to make a video. However, it is a passion of mine, and I love making them, so I don't want to quit.
If anyone would be interested, please let me know.
Thanks, and happy holidays to all!!

merry xmas and happy holidays and welcome to the vh forum!
start by reading as many of the guides as you can stomach and then come back with some specific questions and you'll find many folks here happy to help you out. -
Sure! I will. I just hope I have some luck here. I have been jumping from forum to forum and no one seems to have any answers. It's more technical troubles with codecs and graphic cards. Crap like that--makes my head spin. Ha. I will definitely check out some guides when I get home.
Thanks a bunch! -

LOL actually, I did ask a question.. Which was, would anyone be willing to take me under their wing and teach me some things. When I wanted to learn to knit, I made a friend who could knit, and now we knit. Since I don't know so much about this video world, I was hoping to find someone to show me the ropes, but I guess there are no mentors around here. Just answers? Oh well.
Question number one: Who can help me out with codecs? And if that's too vague a question, here is further explanation: I've screwed up my pc to the point where I don't know what to do.
I couldn't edit videos, so someone suggested I add this codec, which didn't work, so I added another, which worked, but now they're conflicting, so I tried uninstalling it. That gave me a ton of error messages, so I gave up. Tried some codec uninstaller. Now mostly everything works except my sony picture viewer..
I can't watch my home movies (either .modd or .m2ts). I suppose I should try reinstalling the software that came with the camera, but I've done such a wonderful job already, I don't want to cause any further damage to my PC. I would really appreciate it if someone could teach me about codecs. I've tried reading about them, but it just confuses me.
Thanks!

it's best to ask one question at a time
try re-installing the sony picture viewer which is legit
a lot of stuff out there isn't which may or may not have caused problems
you can trust this forum...there's a lot of talent here -
Thank you, Zoobie. I will try that in the morning. I'm in no mood for stressing about computers tonight
I heard this was the place to go for advice, I just wish I'd heard of it sooner. Probably would have saved me aggravation and my computer LOL!
Here are just a few of the problems I've had if anyone has the time to take a gander.
http://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardware-devices/67900-igfx-drive-stopped-responding.html (haven't had this one in a while, but then again, I haven't asked for it either. I might try running that software again, but I just haven't had the energy to.)

Probably all set, but still weird and it bugs me. -
There is a basic concept of computers you need to get a handle on.
There is a huge difference between being totally unable to complete a particular task, and finding a single program that is unable to perform that particular task.
A program which crashes on a regular basis and simply doesn't work well on your particular PC is not at all unusual. The problem could be unique to your PC, or simply a crap program. Just try something else, if that works then don't worry about it.
One step at a time, If you have a problem break it down, ISOLATE and IDENTIFY the issue, attack the problem from different angles. Solutions are not always obvious at first but often very simple, and usually logical and straightforward.
Installing codecs and/or codec packs and various "fix-it" programs willy-nilly is a very bad idea. Do some research before installing anything.
Plus, you got Vista. -
LOL! YES! Vista.... *sigh*
I just wish I'd been able to find this forum earlier, then I never would have installed the codecs. I did do some research, and everyone I met told me the only way to fix it was to install codecs. Now it seems I'm stuck with them :S
