I got a Gen 5 dvr station for Christmas today and I cannot figure out how to use it. It is very confusing. The instruction manuel is no help. The keys are very finicky and hard to navigate with menus. I tried recording from my live video camera which worked but is too difficult to manage.
Can I watch live tv on this device from a remote location? I want something that will hook up to my cable box and be able to see my home tv channels on a portable device on the road. My analog portable tv will die this February with the digital transition and I want something to replace it. (Is Canada going all digital too or will the tv still get CBC?)
While it does record from my camcorder, can it pause and rewind a live video feed like Tivo does? I want something to hook up to my video camera for instant playback while recording.
If this device cannot do those above, is there anything out there that does.
Without getting into really specific details about which cable connection to use or what buttons to press, what other general basic features does it have.

I don't know anything about your ARCOS DVR station, but your portable analog TV will still be able to receive CBC after Fegruary 17. Canada isn't switching over to all digital until August 31, 2011.
[Edit] I became curious and looked googled "Archos DVR Station". It is an accessory for Archos 405, 605, and 705 Players that allows them to record TV programs or other video. It does not seem like it would be terribly useful without the player to go with it, and you haven't said that you have one of those. (The player can store programming that you'd be able to play back on the road. They are not really for watching live TV over-the-air. You would need a high-speed internet connection and WiFi as well as the right Archos player, and access to the Archos Content Portal to watch TV shows)
If you have a good laptop and a high-speed internet connection available on the road and at home, Sling Media's SB300-100 Slingbox PRO-HD might do some of what you want. (Stream TV/DVR output from home to remote location.)
Other than that, there are a few battery powered TVs with ATSC tuners. Here are a few links for examples.

It seems to be an accessory to one of these.

I think I have the 405. It came with portable screen monitor and some stand to power it with cable imputs. They can be connected or separated. Either way I'm not that interested in monitor that can only play back remotely stuff that has been previously recorded. I already have a portable dvd player.
But the tv's with ATSC tuners, they won't get cable and there's less stuff on the free channels and more cable channels these days. I don't think a simple replacement would be worth it.
So I'm definitely interested in something like the slingbox that can send channels from home to a remote location. I've heard that you can receive the signal on compatible cell phones in addition to laptops. Any idea which ones would work for that? I'm really interested in something that I could bring to a sports game. -
You could take a look at Sling Media's website for more information about their products. Here's a support page about using a slingbox with a mobile phone or PDA: http://support.slingmedia.com/go/slingplayer_mobile
