It sounds like a poor ground - try using a different cable.

Yellow Wire should goto the Video input of the recorder. The Red and White plugs should connect to the Audio inputs on the recorder. Is this how you have it connected?

Wildky, if the output on the camcorder is yellow, that means it is a video output. Of course you will get terrible noise plugging it into an audio port. If you only have a white audio out, it must be a mono camcorder. (Hard for us to tell, since we don't know the model number of your JVC.) If that is the case, you might need to use a y-adapter to feed the one mono channel into the stereo inputs on the DVD recorder. However, some recorders allow you to plug into the left channel only (as I recall), and the circuitry will lay the audio down on both tracks. Look at the manual for your DVD recorder to see if that will work. Come to think of it, you should also look at your JVC camcorder's manual to confirm the types of outputs you have, and whether the audio is stereo or mono.

    Merry Christmas.

    Hello wildky.

Obviously, your camcorder has monoral audio only.
You didn't provide the model numbers of your JVC camcorder or RCA DVD recorder, so I'm just guessing.
-Have you tried yellow to yellow for video; white audio out jack on the camcorder connected to the red input audio jack on the RCS DVD recorder ?

In the case of a monoral signal input, your DVD recorder could be input-specific; that is, the red input jack could be the only acceptable option for receiving monoral audio. Your owner's manual should provide specific information including possible menu settings regarding this function.

Also, be sure to check for any particular settings in your camcorder's menu specific to dubbing.
