I converted a movie to DivX using Avi.net. It looked beautiful, but had sync issues. I tried to fix things with Virtualdub, but couldn't do a very good job. I then thought that there was something wrong, because usually with Virtualdub, i can do a pretty good job fixing sync issues. I decided to do a virus scan, and gee whiz, i found so many critters lurking around on my HDD. I think i found and zapped most of them. I know that viruses and other malware can affect the speed of a PC, so i think it should be a pre-requisite to do a virusscan before ever doing any video processing of any kind. I think i'll finally be able to fix my DivX movie.
If anyone has any comments, let's hear them.

The likelihood of the virii directly causing the sync issues is pretty low, however the overall effect on your system may be a contributing factor. It would depend on just what they were, and what they were doing.
I would be concerned that these didn't show up until you actually ran a scan. This would imply that either you aren't running a real time scanner, or that they were dormant inside an archive that hadn't been opened yet, in which case they were doing anything to your system (yet)Read my blog here.
