  1. Hello-Has anyone used the Sony TRV900 video camera in a pass-through setup(S video>TRV900>firewire>computer). If you have, what settings did you have on the camera, how do you use it as a pass-through device? Thanks in advance-Ron B

  2. Sorry, bro. TRV900 doesn't have the pass-through feature...well not that I know of. I don't have first hand experience on it, but I've got a friend who owns one. And I've asked him about the feature, and he told me it doesn't have it.

...but its a very nice camcorder though.

  4. I have a TRV900 (love it) - if you can tell me the configuration most people use for feed-through I'll give it a try.

  5. Ron B and jtor -

This camera does have analog-digital pass-through capability. See Sony's list of features:

    http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/office/handycamrtmcamcorders/minidv/dcr-trv900_specs.shtml

On my TRV120, I slide the VTR/Camera switch to VTR and then enter the main menu. The first heading available is "VTR SET," and the last option under that heading is "A/V-DV OUT." All you have to do is make sure that "A/V-DV OUT" is set to "ON."

Connect the computer's firewire out to your computer, and connect your source to the A/V jack on the camera. I haven't tried converting from S-Video, but I've done countless VHS tapes.

  8. The TRV900 (at least my NTSC unit) does not have an AV-DV option under VTR SET or any other menu. Yes the Sony specs say it has passthrough but the manual and camera don't mention it.

So I try it. It will not work without a tape. I insert a tape and try it in record more - it dubs composite to tape but the firewire is blank. Unplug the firewire it dubs, plug in the firewire it blue screens.

I'll be contacting Sony technical support - for what this camera cost it should have the features they promise.
